The more I think about it, the more I want to see this recipe
Unless the text is just “make Biryani for 5 people 160 times” this is less of a recipe and more of an industrial processing document, I want to know how this is laid out, what expectations they have of people - I’m assuming it’s for a Pakistani wedding, only because that’s the only place I know of where 800 people + Biryani + English-language recipe makes sense to me, but honestly it could be anything.
Okay, I have a few thoughts on this. For those of you who don’t know, I’m a search and rescue professional, it’s literally what I do for a living. I have seen more lives saved by an inReach than any other device, period. It is the most important piece of gear you could possibly ever buy. We literally rescued a hunter last week because of one of these. Might be talking to a niche audience, but for those of you that are outdoorsy, do not cancel your inreach in favor of Apple’s SoS functionality. First and foremost, the satellite system apple is using is the GlobalStar satellite system. According to Apple: “(the) Emergency SOS via satellite might not work in places above 62° latitude, such as northern parts of Canada and Alaska.” Garmin, on the other hand, uses the Iridium network, which will locate you anywhere in the world. Secondly, the Garmin offers text functionality, which allow rescue to actually coordinate with you and ask important questions such as the nature of your injuries, landmarks around you, weather (very important for helicopters), et cetera. The breadcrumb tracking also provides a better picture for where you might be, as well as peace of mind to anyone back home. As a final point, the iridium network is able to be piggy backed off of some government recources that are able to fine-tune your location with more precision. You see, satellite SoS is not as precise as you might think. Your location does not come in as a “pin” so to speak with an exact location, it comes up as a circle, or radius of where you might be. The more times a satellite passes overhead, the more circles can be generated to precisely triangulate your position, so better network = more circles = less time for you to be stranded somewhere dying. Keep in mind, I’m not bashing Apple’s new satellite SoS here, it’s a good idea, and great for everyday Joe’s who didn’t bother to buy an inReach and get into a tough spot, but it IS inferior to an inReach. And when your life is on the line, do you really want to save money?
frankly, having mutuals has ruined me. i can't see a train without immediately going "ohh, my train mutual would love this," or hearing someone talk about a celebrity without going "that's the man my mutual wants to tie up and put in a deep fryer."
